Element Results

Top  Previous  Next

This tab shows the Element Results. The following quantities are reported for each Element:

1.The Axial Force, F.

2.The Axial Stress, σ=F/A, where A is the Section Area.

3.The Axial Strain, ε=σ/E, where E is the Elasticity Modulus of the Material.

4.The Elongation, ΔL=L*σ/E, where L is the original Length of the Element (i.e. in the undeformed state).

5.The Strain Energy =1/2*(E*A/L)*ΔL2 = F2*L/(2*E*A), which is the energy stored in the Element in the deformed state.

Sign convention:

In EngiLab Truss.2D, as shown in the Figure:

Tensile Element Forces, Stresses and Strains are reported as Positive.

Compressive Element Forces, Stresses and Strains are reported as Negative.

Note:

All columns are sortable columns.

By clicking on the header row, the user can sort the results based on one of the columns. This is useful to find, for example, the max. or min. Force, Stress, etc.

After sorting, to get back the original numbering of the Elements, simply click the "Reset" button.
